Three UH runners in NCAA Regional finals

Three University of Hawai'i women advanced to today's finals of the NCAA West Regional Track Championships after competing yesterday at Hayward Field on the University of Oregon campus in Eugene, Ore.

Sophomore Dana Buchanan placed fourth in her 1500-meter heat in 4 minutes, 29.53 seconds. The top four finishers in two heats advanced along with those having the next four best times. USC's Iryna Vashchuck led the way with 4:25.34.

Senior Tasha Monroe placed fourth in her 400-meter heat in 56.25 seconds. Olympic gold medalist Monique Henderson of UCLA had the top time of 52.92.

Sophomore Kelly Young placed third in her 800-meter heat in 2:06.90. BYU's Aneta Lemiesz was the top qualifier in 2:05.66.

Sophomore Patricia Gauthier finished in a tie for 11th in the pole vault with 12-6, and junior Novelle Murray placed ninth in the hammer throw with 179-4. Neither advanced to the finals.



Eldredge helps Cal

Kaleo Eldredge, a Baldwin High graduate, batted 1 for 4 and scored twice to help California beat Baylor, 8-0, in the opener of their NCAA Super Regional in Waco, Texas.

The best-of-three series continues today.



Lee at Iolani clinic

Travis Lee, a 2001 Saint Louis School graduate and two-time NCAA champion at Cornell, will be the technician at the 5th Annual Iolani Wrestling Clinic, June 6 to 10.

The clinic is open to wrestlers of all ages from 9 a.m. to 3:45 p.m. each day and includes lunch.

Lee won the 133-pound weight class as a senior at Cornell and the 125-pound division as a sophomore. He compiled a 143-13 record during his four All-America years.

Sample sale next week

Hawai'i golf retailers will be holding a sample sale for men's and women's apparel, accessories, shoes and equipment next weekend instead of today and tomorrow as incorrectly listed in Thursday's Golf Report.

The first sale will be held June 4 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Mililani High School cafeteria. On June 5, it will be held at Washington Intermediate School from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.



Yagi to headline camp

Hawai'i Baptist Academy will host the 10th HBA Basketball Hoop Camp, June 7 to 10. It is open to boys and girls entering the fourth through 12th grades for the 2005-06 school year.

Jimmy Yagi, former NAIA District II Coach of the Year at Hawai'i-Hilo, and Bill O'Rear, former NAIA All-District II guard at UH-Hilo, will be the featured guests.

The camp will cover fundamentals, including shooting and defensive concepts. Cost is $85. For more information, call Myles Shioji at 595-2469.
