A 69-year-old Honolulu woman was killed yesterday after being struck by a bus in front of the Foodland on South Beretania.

Witnesses told police the woman, who carried a cane, approached the bus as it was pulling away from the bus stop in front of the grocery store at about noon.

As the bus moved she ran alongside it and tapped on the side, trying to get the driver, a 56-year-old 'Ewa Beach man, to stop.

The woman fell on the road and was run over by the right rear wheel of the bus.

She was taken by ambulance to The Queen's Medical Center and pronounced dead at 12:46 p.m. Neither speed nor alcohol were factors in the accident, police said.

The woman's death marked the 33rd traffic fatality of year, compared with 30 at the same time last year.
