Rotary names district governor
Rosalynn "Roz" Cooper has been named Rotary International district governor for Hawai'i, providing leadership for the 41 clubs of Rotary District 50000 for 2005-2006.
Her goals for the coming year include expanding community services projects that address the critical issues of poverty, illiteracy, clean water, health and hunger.
Cooper serves as a logistics management specialist and information management officer for the deputy chief of staff for logistics, U.S. Army Headquarters, Pacific.
Patricia Lorenzo, assistant professor in the natural products and cancer biology program at the Cancer Research Center of Hawai'i, has been named a recipient of the Minority Scholar Award for Scientific Excellence from the American Association for Cancer Research's Minority in Cancer Research.
Originally from South America, Lorenzo joined the Cancer Research Center of Hawai'i in 2001.
Before that, she served at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, Md., as a Fogarty International Center Fellow.
