Police have opened a criminal property damage and arson investigation following a fire early yesterday morning that slightly damaged a single-story home off Pahoa Avenue in Kapahulu.

An examination of the damage and evidence at the scene indicated an incendiary device was used to start the fire about 5 a.m., police said

No suspects had been identified and no arrests had been made as of this morning.

Man suspected of terrorizing ex-girlfriend

A 41-year-old man was arrested yesterday for suspicion of multiple felony offenses following a confrontation with his ex-girlfriend late Tuesday night near the Hawai'i Convention Center.

The former girlfriend, 26, told police her ex-boyfriend saw her pull into the parking lot of a convenience store at the corner of Atkinson Drive and Kapi'olani Boulevard about 11 p.m. and jumped into her car without permission.

The former boyfriend began to argue with her, threatened to beat her up and then forced his way behind the wheel of the woman's car and drove behind the store, police said.

The woman was able to get out of her own car and into a friend's car and left the area to file a report with police.

Police found the woman's car about 4:15 a.m. yesterday and arrested the former boyfriend for suspicion of unlawful entry into a motor vehicle, unauthorized control of a motor vehicle and second-degree terroristic threatening.
