Fire destroys Kaua‘i warehouse

Advertiser Staff

A fire in Wailua, Kaua'i, destroyed a warehouse and nearby garage on Crossley Road.

No one was injured in the Thursday night fire, but residents in about four homes were evacuated, said fire officials.

Twenty-one firefighters responded to the call that came in at 6:30 p.m., and within an hour, the blaze was under control.

According to fire investigator David Bukoski, the fire started after Gerald Ibson, owner of the two structures, had been burning weeds with a propane torch.

Thinking he had adequately doused the controlled fire, Gibson went inside his home to eat dinner. Shortly afterward, neighbors came over and told him his warehouse was burning.

Six police officers also responded and assisted with blocking off Crossley Road and Uilani and Polani Place as well as keeping onlookers at a safe distance.
