Today's the deadline to register for the Japanese Cultural Center of Hawai'i's observance of Shichi Go San, the celebration of children turning the milestone ages of 7, 5 and 3.

Observe the tradition Nov. 13 at the center, where kids receive a Shinto blessing. For $70 ($56 for JCCH members), Masako Formals will dress your child in kimono and zori and a photographer will take a portrait. Photo packages are $20 to $55. 945-7633, www.jcch.com.

NOTHING LITTLE ABOUT THIS 'CHICKEN' — $40.1 MILLION

Despite critical panning, audiences flocked to "Chicken Little," opening with a hefty $40.1 million to make it the top film this weekend.

Audiences checked out the Gulf War drama "Jarhead" to the tune of $28.8 million. Serial killer film "Saw II" dropped from last week's first place to third with $17.2 million, while "Legend of Zorro" and "Prime" similarly fell two places apiece to No. 4 and No. 5, earning $10 and $5.3 million, respectively.
