Stealth bomber engineer to stay in custody

Advertiser Staff

A Maui resident accused of selling national defense information to foreign countries will remain in federal custody, a U.S. District judge ruled today.

Judge Helen Gillmor denied a request to reconsider Noshir Gowadia's detention without bail, saying he still poses flight risk.

Gowadia has been in federal custody since he was arrested Oct. 26.

Gowadia is a former engineer for a defense contractor. He was indicted on six counts of "transmitting national defense information and exporting classified technical data related to defense articles to foreign persons" and violating the U.S. Arms Export Control Act.

Each of the six counts carries a maximum 10-year prison sentence and a $250,000 fine.
