HILO, Hawai'i — Big Island police have found an 80-year-old man who was reported missing from his O'ahu home Nov. 1.

Ceriaco Tanudtanud of Kopke Street in Kalihi was found at a Hilo hotel Tuesday evening, and turned over to Adult Protective Services in East Hawai'i.

Tanudtanud, who suffers from Alzheimer's disease, had been missing since he got into a taxicab at 6:30 a.m. Nov. 1 at his home in Kalihi.

Tanudtanud was featured on a TV newscast on Tuesday, and a motorist who had given him a ride to a Hilo hotel called Big Island police to tell officers where to find him.

Police said Tanudtanud was in good health, and was to be reunited with family members who traveled from O'ahu to get him. Officials did not say how he got to the Big Island.

WOMAN ARRESTED IN CAR-THEFT CASE

A 42-year-old Waialua woman was arrested Tuesday morning after telling police she was trying to return a stolen car to its owner.

Police said the car was stolen when its owner's home was burglarized Nov. 3.

The car's owner, a 64-year-old man, and his wife received phone calls Monday from people who said they had seen the car in Hale'iwa. A man who called the car's owner said he had found the car and wanted to meet the owner in Mililani to return it. He asked the car owner not to call or involve police.

About 12:30 a.m. Tuesday, a woman driving the stolen car flagged down a police officer at the corner of Waialua Beach and Kaukonahua roads and told the officer she wanted to return the car to its owner.

The officer determined that it had been reported stolen and arrested the driver.
