High surf could hit 30 feet

Advertiser Staff

A high surf warning has been issued for most of the Hawaiian Islands, with 20- to 30-foot waves expected this afternoon and continuing through early tomorrow on north-facing shores.

The National Weather Service said west-facing shores could see 10- to 20-foot waves this afternoon into tomorrow.

Affected are Ni'ihau, Kaua'i, O'ahu, Moloka'i and Maui.

A high surf advisory also has been issued for the west- and north-facing shores of the Big Island.

The latest buoy data indicate that the incoming swell has increased enough to produce surf heights that will be at or above warning levels for the north- and west-facing shores for most of the islands, the weather service said.

In addition, a higher-than-normal tide of up to 2 1/2 feet is also expected by early tomorrow morning.
