Cook faces life in prison for killing captain, first mate

Advertiser Staff

A former cook on a fishing vessel faces life in prison without parole after a federal jury found him guilty today in the death of the captain and first mate.

Lei Shi, 24, was convicted of three federal maritime counts of committing acts of violence against the captain and first mate and seizing control of the Full Means No. 2 in March 2002.

Shi was found guilty of stabbing to death both the captain and the first mate while the vessel was out at sea.

He will be sentenced by U.S. District Judge Helen Gillmor on Feb. 23, 2006.
