Advertiser Staff

A Waipahu woman was arrested last night after she allegedly showed up at a gambling house in Ma'ili with a gun in her hand in hopes of "rescuing" her boyfriend.

Police said the woman, 26, reportedly witnessed her boyfriend being ordered into a car at gunpoint by a man whom she knew. Police were called to an area where the kidnapping was said to have happened and learned the kidnapping suspect and victim may have gone to a known gambling house near the intersection of Apu'upu'u and Kaukama roads.

When police arrived at the house about 10:10 p.m., they found the woman had arrived before them and was walking around with a gun in her hand questioning others at the house about her boyfriend's whereabouts.

Police then arrested the woman for carrying a firearm in public. Officers eventually found the woman's boyfriend unharmed and he declined to press kidnapping charges against the 33-year-old man who was said to have kidnapped and brought him to the gambling house.

Police said the man, 21, was pulled over about 10:30 p.m. after an officer noticed the moped the man was riding did not have a tax decal nor a working tail light.

After checking the vehicle identification number, the officer determined a 55-year-old man had reported the moped was stolen.

The man found riding the moped was arrested, questioned and released from custody pending further investigation.

A 34-year-old man was arrested yesterday afternoon after allegedly crashing the stolen car he was driving near the Wal-Mart store on Ke'eaumoku Street.

Police said a patrol officer had attempted to stop the man in Waikiki to issue a traffic citation, but the driver fled. Officers monitored and followed the car. A check of its license plate number indicated that a 49-year-old man had reported that it was stolen from him on Monday.

The driver was arrested after he crashed the white convertible into a parked car.

Man arrested for alleged kidnapping, sexual assault

Police yesterday were holding a Wai'anae man, 47, suspected of kidnapping and sexually assaulting a 34-year-old woman at Yokohama Bay.

The woman told police she celebrated her birthday with friends Tuesday night, asked for a ride back to Honolulu and fell asleep in the suspect's truck.

Police said the woman reported being taken to the end of Farrington Highway instead of Honolulu and that she was assaulted in the suspect's truck about 9:30 a.m.

Police said the woman escaped from the white Chevrolet truck with a camper top after the suspect fell asleep. They said the woman notified a fisherman who reported the incident to a lifeguard who then notified police.

Near miss of pedestrians leads to McCully man's arrest

A 40-year-old McCully man was arrested for suspicion of several criminal offenses yesterday after he called attention to himself while driving through Waikiki.

Police said a patrol officer was investigating a traffic collision neat Kalakaua Avenue and Dukes Lane about 3:05 p.m. when he saw a silver Chevrolet sedan drive by very slowly as the man behind the wheel looked back and shouted at a security guard.

After watching the driver nearly hit a group of pedestrians and a parked car, the officer who had been investigating the previous collision ordered the Chevy driver to pull over.

Police said the officer quickly determined the driver was intoxicated. The officer checked the car's registration and learned a rental agency had reported the car stolen.

The driver was then arrested for suspicion of unauthorized control of a propelled vehicle, drunk driving, driving without a license and reckless driving.
