Native American flute workshop for beginners

As a part of Native Winds Gallery's celebration of Native American Heritage Month, Troy DeRoche, a Blackfoot, will conduct a workshop on the American Indian flute from 3 to 5 p.m. today.

It's appropriate for beginning flute players or those who are interested in the instrument.

The workshop will cover the basics, including scales, fingering and special techniques, how to care for a flute and what to look for when buying one.

Location: 520 Kamoku St., across from Iolani School. Admission is $25 in advance or $30 at the door.
