Man arrested for car theft

Advertiser Staff

Police arrested a Waikiki man late Friday night after he allegedly tried to force a woman acquaintance to prostitute herself to earn money for him. The man was arrested at about 11:30 p.m. for suspicion of second-degree robbery and car theft.

The woman, 31, told police that the man called her Friday night and asked her out. She said when she picked him up he told her to drive to an area near Pali Highway and Kukui Street.

The woman said after she parked her car, the man told her to get out and make him some money by engaging in prostitution, police said.

When the woman refused, police said the man threatened her, taking her car keys and cell phone out of the pockets in her skirt. When she refused a second time, the man, 32, forced her back into the car, drove her around for a short time and again demanded that she engage in prostitution.

The woman said that when she refused a third time, the man pushed her to the ground. She said she was able to flag down a passing motorist and catch a ride to Bishop and Hotel streets. At that point, she called police and reported the incident.
