Ishii 35th entering final day of qualifying

Hawai'i's David Ishii shot a 4-over par 76 and was 35th after the fifth round of the Champion Tour Qualifying School at the PGA Southern California Golf Club in Calimesa, Calif.

Ishii is at 371. Massy Kuramoto leads the tournament at 359 after a 70 yesterday. The low seven after today's sixth round will receive playing privileges for 2006. The next eight receive conditional privileges. Ishii is five strokes behind the top 15.

Steve Veriato, formerly of Hilo, is tied for 50th after a 75-376.


TENNIS

ODESNIK CAPTURES TITLE

Wayne Odesnik of Weston, Fla., celebrated his 20th birthday yesterday by winning the Hono-lulu Futures Pro Circuit Tournament at the University of Hawai'i courts.

Odesnik defeated Sam Querrey, of Thousand Oaks, Calif., 6-4, 6-3, in the final.

Marco Crugnola and Stefano Ianni defeated Brendan Evans and Peter Stroer, 1-6, 6-3, 7-6 (4), for the doubles title.

DIVING



WANG, WIKTORSSON WIN

Hawai'i divers Rui Wang and Mats Wiktorsson won platform diving titles yesterday at the Indiana Collegiate Invitational at Counsilman-Billingsley Aquatic Center in Bloomington, Ind.

Wang, a senior, scored 319 points to beat out 10 others for the women's title. UH's QiongJie Huang, who won meet's 1- and 3-meter titles, was fifth yesterday with 221.75 and Megan Farrow was eighth with 213.15.

Wiktorsson, a sophomore, scored 367.60 to beat 10 other men for the title.

WATER POLO



BYUH FINISHES FIFTH

Brigham Young-Hawai'i defeated Santa Clara, 8-7, in the consolation final on Saturday to finish fifth in the Western Water Polo Association Tournament in Los Angeles.

The Seasiders, ranked No. 16 in the nation, finished their season 15-9.

Senior Carlos Acevedo scored three goals for BYUH.


BASEBALL

WINTER CAMPS SET

The University of Hawai'i's annual winter baseball camps are scheduled for next month.

The camps are Dec. 21 to 23 and Dec. 28 to 30 at Les Murakami Stadium.

The pitcher/catcher camps are from 9 a.m. to noon each day. The hitting camp is from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. each day.

Cost is $120 per camp (either Dec. 21 to 23 or the Dec. 28-30 session) or $200 both the pitcher/catcher and hitting camps during the same sessions.

The camps are conducted by UH coaches and players and area high school coaches.
