Police arrested a 35-year-old man in downtown Honolulu last night after he allegedly knocked another man unconscious.

Police said the victim was sitting on a sidewalk along Nu'uanu Avenue near Hotel Street at approximately 8.55 p.m. when the suspect approached and began to swear at him.

The victim stood up and was immediately punched in the right eye, causing him to pass out, police said.

A city ambulance took the injured man to The Queen's Medical Center, where he was diagnosed with a fractured eye socket.

The suspect was located and arrested for suspicion of second-degree assault.

Women allegedly robbed at Makaha-area beach

Police yesterday were searching for a man who robbed two women at a Makaha-area beach.

The two women, ages 24 and 21, told police they were at the beach with friends when they saw a man taking their bags at approximately 2:30 p.m. One of the women said she saw the man taking things and confronted him.

She told police the man took out a handgun and ordered the woman to back away and then pointed the gun at her friend and threatened to shoot her.

He then ran off with the women's property before police arrived.
