Police Beat: Boy stabbed at campground

An 'Ewa Beach teenager was hospitalized with stab wounds today after an early morning brawl at the Kalaeloa Camp Grounds, police said.

The 17-year-old victim was taken to The Queen's Medical Center in serious condition with a lacerated liver and a punctured lung, police said.

The victim was camping with a group of friends at the campground area off Coral Sea Road when their group was confronted by another group of young men at 1:30 a.m., police said. A large fight erupted and the victim was stabbed. He was initially taken to St. Francis Medical Center-West, then transferred to Queen's.

A suspect was not identified. Police are investigating the case as an attempted homicide.

Big Island police identify accident victim

A 52-year-old Ka'u man died Tuesday from injuries he sustained when he was hit by a vehicle at the Kahuku scenic lookout in Ka'u, Big Island police said.

The vehicle was being driven by a 41-year-old woman from Waiohinu, police said.

The victim was identified as Leonard Kainoa Sr. of a Na'alehu address. An autopsy will determine his exact cause of death.

Police searching for kidnapping, robbery suspects

Police are looking for a man and a woman who allegedly kidnapped and robbed an intoxicated Honolulu man Wednesday night.

The 31-year-old victim was approached by the woman about 8:45 p.m. Wednesday on Hotel Street. She left after a brief conversation but returned with a male friend armed with a knife, police said.

The couple forced the victim to hand over $100, police said. The victim was then taken inside an unidentified business for about two hours, then taken to an ATM machine and forced to withdraw $80, police said.

The victim was then told to walk toward Ala Moana Boulevard. The suspects disappeared after that.

Police are investigating kidnapping and 2nd degree robbery charges.

Police pick up escaped inmate in Waikiki

A prison inmate who escaped on Halloween was captured Wednesday in Waikiki, police said.

Shane Santos, 36, a Laumaka Work Furlough Center inmate serving a 10-year sentence for drug and theft convictions, was arrested at 2:45 p.m. Wednesday on Royal Hawaiian Avenue, police said.

Police were called after someone responded to a CrimeStoppers bulletin seeking Santos.
