UH suspends guard Gibson

 •  Hawai'i slams Saint Louis

"Little Matt" Gibson was not with the University of Hawai'i men's basketball team last night because he has been "suspended indefinitely" by head coach Riley Wallace.

Gibson was suspended yesterday for what Wallace said was "conduct detrimental to the team." He did not elaborate on Gibson's conduct or the length of the suspension.

"We're all a family and you want all of them to be together," Wallace said. "We're better when he's there playing and playing good because he's a very talented young man."

Gibson, a 6-5 junior guard, was the team's leading scorer last season with an average of 13.0 points per game. He was the first guard off the bench in Hawai'i's first two games this season, and is averaging 4.5 points and 1.5 rebounds in 16 minutes per game.

"He definitely is a huge part of this team," senior co-captain Julian Sensley said. "We definitely could use him, but we can't dwell on it. We have to move forward."

Gibson had the worst game of his two-year UH career at UNLV on Tuesday, when he had one point and four turnovers in nine minutes.

After a lackluster practice on Friday, Gibson was dismissed early by Wallace.

It is the second time in two seasons that Gibson has been suspended by Wallace. He was suspended for one day of practice last season for a similar reason.
