Ex-Bond's 'mermaids' keep Kaua'i pad afloat

By Wayne Harada

WHO'S NEWS: Pierce Brosnan discusses his life after 007 in the December Playboy. But that's not the item: Interviewed at his Kaua'i home on the north shore of the Garden Isle, with his wife, Keely Shaye Smith, Brosnan was surrounded by what interviewer Stephen Rebello called "a group of gorgeous female friends and staff — he calls them the mermaids" who monitored the food and champagne. Greg Zane, formerly of Honolulu, has completed a national tour of "The King and I," for which he was associate choreographer and danced the role of Simon of Legree. Stephanie Powers was Mrs. Anna. Baayork Lee directed; she was in the original "A Chorus Line" and has had a long history with that musical, which is due back on Broadway next year (she will direct and stage it, to maintain the vision of creator Michael Bennett). Frank DeLima & Na Kolohe will return to Margarita's on Lewers Street Dec. 10 with a holiday show — complete with his trademark "Filipino Christmas" shtick, of course. The shows repeat Dec. 17 and 24. ...

TRADE WINDS: Romano's Macaroni Grill has attracted folks like Mayor Mufi Hannemann, TV couple Pamela Young and Gary Sprinkle, jewelers Rex Nockengust and Gene Allen, TV anchor Howard Dashefsky, Freddie and Myrtle Lee, Jim Nabors, Hawaii Restaurant Assn. executive director Gail Ann Chew, Russell Siu of 3660 on the Rise, Liz Schwartz from Coffee Talk, Ben Dowling from Nick's Fishmarket, Kellie Harris and chef Raul Puga from Compadres, Ed and Tina Wary from Auntie Pasto's and Dixie Grill....

Andrew Sharp wanted to think of a novel — and distinctly Island way — to celebrate his father Robert's 60th birthday. Dad, a frequent Maui visitor, adores Roselani's Haupia Ice Cream. So Andrew and mother Inese ordered six half-gallons — along with a "Haupia Rocks" T-shirt — to be sent to the Sharp's Poughkeepsie, N.Y., home. ...
