POLICE BEAT
Suspect arrested trying to steal car

Advertiser Staff

Police arrested a 31-year-old man yesterday morning after they allegedly found him in the front seat of an Acura Integra tampering with its ignition.

Beat officers were sent to the corner of Kalihi and Kilohana streets in Kalihi Valley about 9:40 a.m. and found a man sitting in the front seat of the Acura leaning forward and manipulating the ignition, which had been removed from the steering column and was dangling from several wires.

Police removed the man from the car and arrested him for several outstanding warrants.

As part of the arrest, police searched the man and reported finding four large zip-lock bags containing what appeared to be crystal methamphetamine.

They then checked with the Acura owner and determined they could arrest the man for suspicion of attempted auto theft.

He was also arrested for suspicion of second-degree promotion of dangerous drugs and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Man accused of forgery

A 22-year-old man was arrested yesterday in connection with a Aug. 9 incident in which a 24-year-old man reported that one of his personal checks was stolen from the mail.

Police believe the younger man forged the check and gave it to a transvestite prostitute in Wahiawa for services rendered.

The suspect was arrested about 9:30 p.m. yesterday for suspicion of second-degree forgery.
