Traffic stop leads to felony arrest

A traffic infraction led to the felony arrest of a 33-year-old Waikiki man in Mo'ili'ili yesterday afternoon after an officer saw a sawed-off shotgun in the car, police said.

A patrol officer stopped a car about 4:10 p.m. near 2470 S. King St. after seeing the driver commit what the officer believed was a minor traffic offense, police said.

The officer was writing out a traffic citation when he noticed the firearm, police said.

The driver was arrested on suspicion of carrying a firearm in public, possession of a prohibited firearm, being a felon in possession of a firearm, third-degree promotion of dangerous drugs, possession of drug paraphernalia and theft of a credit card.



Stolen motorcycle recovered

A 22-year-old Aliamanu man was arrested yesterday after a neighbor took a liking to a motorcycle the man had in his garage and asked if he could buy it.

Police said the prospective buyer told a friend about the impending motorcycle purchase and the friend realized the cycle matched the description of one that had been stolen earlier.

Police confirmed that the motorcycle had been reported stolen and went to the home on Leal Place.

The arrested the would-be seller on suspicion of second-degree theft/detaining stolen property.



Police arrest alleged burglar

Police arrested a 49-year-old man early yesterday morning at the entrance to the Makiki Shopping Village after a caller told a 911 operator the man appeared to be trying to break into the shopping complex.

The caller said the man, who does not have a listed address, was kneeling down in front of the main door, trying to pick the lock.

Police arrived about 2:25 a.m. and found the man still in front of the entrance. They reported finding lock picks on the ground near him and a set of them in his pants pocket.

He was arrested on suspicion of attempted second-degree burglary and possession of burglary tools.



Man accused of terrorizing girlfriend

A 30-year-old man was arrested late yesterday afternoon for allegedly holding his former girlfriend against her will in his car in Pearl City for about seven hours and threatening to kill her.

The girlfriend, 28, told police she was trying to break off her relationship with the man, who she described as high on drugs. She said she tried to leave the man's car several times, but that he restrained her or threatened to harm her each time.

Police arrived at the scene about 5:30 p.m., at which time the girlfriend managed to get out of the car.

The man, who does not have a listed address, tried to leave but police officers stopped him. He was arrested on suspicion of kidnapping and second-degree terroristic threatening.
