Kaua'i man dies in pickup crash

HANAMA'ULU, Kaua'i — A 60-year-old Wailua Homesteads man was killed Monday when his pickup truck went out of control and rolled onto its side near Hanama'ulu Road at the entrance to the 7-Eleven store.

Police said Mitchell Quinones was alone in his truck, headed south on Kuhio Highway when the vehicle crossed the center line, hit a pipe and flipped. Quinones was removed from the car and taken to Wilcox Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.


WORK-RELEASE INMATE SOUGHT

Police and state correctional authorities were looking for a 31-year-old inmate who failed to return to the Laumaka Work Furlough Center.

Fabian Krzyska failed to show up for work Monday and did not return to Laumaka, a facility in Kalihi. He was described as 5 feet 11 and 184 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes. He has a tattoo of his last name on his stomach, the word "Yuson" tattooed on his back, and "Kiana" with a tiger tattooed on his left forearm.

MAN ARRESTED IN THEFT ATTEMPT

Police arrested a 31-year-old man Monday morning for investigation of attempted car theft after he was found in the front seat of an Acura Integra in Kalihi Valley tampering with its ignition.

Police searched the man and found four large plastic bags containing what appeared to be crystal methamphetamine.

Officers checked with the car's owner and arrested the man on suspicion of attempted automobile theft and various drug offenses.
