Big waves arrive on North Shore

The annual big wave migration has started in earnest with crowds heading to see 18 to 20 foot waves on Oahu's North Shore. The biggest swells today are at Sunset Beach.

The National Weather Service has issued a high surf advisory for the North Shore, the first of the season.

"This is the real thing," said Pete Thomas, 38, of Tallahasse, Florida, who is visiting Hawaii on a two-week honeymoon with his bride Melissa, 28.

Thomas, a Daytona Beach surfer, said, "I've been surfing for as long as I could swim, but I am strictly an observer here today. I won't be touching these waves."

There's lots of traffic on the North Shore today.
