BASKETBALL

UHH TAKES COURT

The University of Hawai'i-Hilo basketball team, which has thrived the past three seasons under coach Jeff Law, opens the season tomorrow night with the annual Vulcan Midnight Madness.

Law, in his seventh year at UHH, has guided the program to two NCAA Division II regional berths and a Pacific West Conference title while compiling a 59-23 record the past three years.

"We want to continue to be the best team in Hawai'i, make the regional and be as highly seeded as possible," Law said of the upcoming season. "With the guys, experience and desires that we have, I think that's what we need to accomplish."

Tomorrow's festivities at the UHH gymnasium will start shortly after 10:30 p.m.

Law welcomes back several players from last year's 25-4 team that made it to the second round of the West regional. They include 7-foot center Alex Graham, 6-6 forward Terrance Troupe, 6-4 guard/forward Justin Dobson, 6-foot guard Rocky Jorgenson and 6-2 guard Christopher Young.
