Wie shoots 1-under 71, trails Sorenstam by five

Honolulu's Michelle Wie rallied from a poor start to shoot a 1-under-par 71 and fell five shots back Saturday in the Samsung World Championship in Palm Desert, Calif.

Wie, 16, making her professional debut in this elite 20-player women's field, had a bogey 5 on the second hole and a double-bogey 7 on the third. She three-putted both holes. In previous rounds she had at least one birdie and no bogeys in the first three holes.

The Punahou School junior rallied with birdies on holes No. 6, 12, 15 and 18 is at 10-under 206 overall and is in third place.

While Wie was desending slightly on the leaderboard, the LPGA's No. 1-ranked player, Annika Sorenstam, was ascending.

Sorenstam shot a 6-under-par 66 Saturday, including three birdies in a row twice -- on holes Nos. 2, 3, 4 and 14, 15, 16. She also birdied 18, giving her eight birdies on the day. Her three-round total of 15-under 201 (64-71-66).

Sorenstam, the first-round leader, entered the day tied with Wie in second behind second-round leader Grace Park. Park took a 7 on a par-3 eighth hole and fell out of the lead. Gloria Park shot a 4-under 68 is at 205, four shots behind Sorenstam.
