Tree falls, snarls downtown traffic

Advertiser Staff

Traffic in downtown Honolulu was brought to a near standstill this afternoon after a monkeypod tree fell on Beretania Street near Maunakea Street, closing three lanes.

The lane closures were reported at 4:41 p.m.

Earlier today, three westbound lanes of Nimitz Highway were closed after an SUV swerved onto a sidewalk near Kekaulike Street and hit two pedestrians. All lanes were reopened about 4 p.m.

Also this afternoon, streets in the area at Campbell and Monsarrat avenues were closed about 4 p.m. after a motorcyle accident in which the motorcycle operator was critically injured.
