30-foot waves expected to hit North Shore

Advertiser Staff

A strong storm near Alaska will likely generate a swell on all north-facing shores as it passes through the islands Saturday and Sunday, according to the National Weather Service.

Victor Proton, lead forecaster Weather Service, said waves are expected to reach heights of 20 to 30 feet beginning Sunday on O'ahu's North Shore, adding that fall storms are typically what generates higher swells at this time of the year.

On Saturday, waves are expected to reach 10 to 12 feet, Proton said.

High-surf advisories or warnings will likely be posted tomorrow at the earliest, he said.
