Hawai'i 'Samurai' series out on DVD

By Michael Tsai

"Blood of the Samurai: The Series" is out on DVD this month.

The six-episode set, distributed by the Mountain Apple Co. and authored by Sony Entertainment, is available at video stores around the state and through Amazon .com.

Based on Aaron Yamasato's groundbreaking cult hit "Blood of the Samurai," the series combined action, suspense, offbeat humor and top-flight martial arts sequences. The all-local production featured Bryan Yamasaki, Michael Ng, Stephanie Sanchez, Colleen Fujioka, Alicia Michioka Jones, Egan Inouye and other Hawai'i talent.

BURY THAT RUMOR

Turns out we won't have Paris at all — or will we?

Citing the incompatibility of the show's two stars, Fox cancelled "The Simple Life" earlier this month, ending speculation that the show's fourth season might be filmed on Maui.

Paris Hilton, who teamed with pampered pal Nicole Richie for three seasons of the reality series, told reporters earlier this year that the show was moving to Maui and that her new co-star would be Kimberly Stewart. Fox later renewed its option on Richie, squelching the latter claim.

Last week, however, the Associated Press reported that 20th Century Fox Television, the studio that produces the show, is still open to moving "The Simple Life" to another network.
