Warriors hold off San Jose State, 45-38

SAN JOSE, Calif. — Nate Ilaoa scored on a 7-yard run with 5:26 remaining to lift the University of Hawai'i to a 45-38 victory over San Jose State in a Western Athletic Conference football game at Spartan Stadium.

Hawaii is 3-4 overall and 3-2 in the WAC. San Jose State is 1-6 and 0-4.

Hawai'i's Dane Porlas intercepted a pass and returned the ball 22 yards with less than a minute remaining to end the Spartans' final drive.

UH quarterback Colt Brennan completed 36 of 48 passes for 457 yards and three touchdowns. Ryan Grice-Mullen caught five passes for 125 yards, including a 60-yard touchdown. He also ran for a 15-yard score. Chad Mock caught 11 passes for 104 yards and Devone Bess 9 for 102 yards and two touchdowns.

The Warriors lead 31-21 at halftime and led 38-28 after three quarters. But the Spartans scored on a 44-yard field goal by Jared Strubeck and a 25-yard touchdown run by Al Guidry to tie the game at 38.

The Warriors return home to play Fresno State next Saturday.
