Support our troops; Help youngsters in Iraq

  • At today's University of Hawai'i Wahine volleyball game at the Stan Sheriff Center or the Nov. 12 UH football game at Aloha Stadium, stop by the Malama o Na Koa/Support Our Troops table. There you can donate toward a campaign to send 1,001 phone cards, along with angel note cards, to Hawai'i troops in the Middle East during the holidays. It's sponsored by a group from the UH Institutional Research Office. mhirao@hawaii.edu.

  • Drop off teddy bears, stuffed animals or soccer balls from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. today at Kailua Intermediate School, where an 8th grade class has launched "Operation e malama na keiki o Iraq." The program is based on a Colorado program, "Operation Teddy Bear," spearheaded by Dave Thielen, son of state Rep. Cynthia Thielen.
