Senate OKs $60M for state transportation

The U.S. Senate has approved more than $60 million for Hawai'i transportation projects, U.S. Sen. Daniel Inouye announced this week.
The projects will help transportation infrastructure by air, land and sea, Inouye said. They include:
$39.9 million for new bus service facilities in Honolulu, including replacement of buses and Handi-vans, construction of transit centers and other improvements.
$2.6 million for capital improvements for a ferry system from West O'ahu to Honolulu.
$5 million for rural bus programs for Hawai'i, Maui and Kaua'i counties to expand routes and increase the frequency of service.
$2.2 million for essential air services to support continuation of a program that subsidizes air carrier service to small, rural airports.
$4 million for designing new air traffic control towers in Kona and Lihu'e.
$1.6 million to continue implementation of a federal alien species action plan for Hawai'i air carriers.
The Senate funding measure now advances to a House-Senate conference committee.
