LeBrun, McQuaid win Xterra crowns

Nicolas LeBrun and Melanie McQuaid won the Nissan Xterra World Championships triathlon on Maui yesterday.
LeBrun, of Villeneuve-Loubet, France, finished in 2 hours, 38 minutes, 19 seconds.
Among the women, five-year Xterra veteran McQuaid, of Canada, finished in 3:07:16.
The course was a 1,500-meter swim, a 30-kilometer bike ride and a 10-kilometer trail run.
Honolulu's Mark Geoghegan, the only person to compete in all three of the state's triathlons this month, finished 118th in 3:27:12.

UH DUO PULLS OFF UPSET
University of Hawai'i seniors Ryan Sceats and Jarrod Diepraam upset the No. 3 seeds in the round of 16, but lost in the quarterfinals of the Wilson/ITA Northwestern Region Championships yesterday at Santa Clara, Calif.
Sceats and Diepraam beat Marcus Schiller and Arron Spencer of Oregon, 8-6, but fell to Portland's Scott Kennel and James Redpath, 8-6, later in the day.
SAILING
'BOWS FAIL TO QUALIFY
Three University of Hawai'i sailors placed in the top eight at the Men's Singlehanded Pacific Coast Championships yesterday off Sand Island, but failed to qualify for next month's nationals.
UH's Mike Scott finished fifth with 98 points, Mark Spector was sixth with 110 and Eric Oppen placed eighth with 120.
