Advertiser staff

A fire at 4:30 this morning destroyed an older single-family home on Leowaena Street in Waipahu, but all nine people who were in the home when the blaze broke out — including two children — escaped unharmed.

A preliminary estimate set damages at about $125,000 to the wooden, single-wall structure and $65,000 to the contents.

Firefighters said another eight adults stay at the home from time to time, but were not there during the fire. Adjacent homes sustained about $10,000 in damage.
