Advertiser staff

A 38-year-old man was arrested in Çewa Beach last night after a police officer noticed him trying to restart a stalled motorcycle on Fort Weaver Road.

Police said the officer drove past the stalled motorcycle about 11:15 p.m. near Çewa Beach Road and saw the motorcycle was partially blocking the right lane of Fort Weaver Road.

The officer approached the motorcycle operator as he was trying to kick-start the cycle and found there were no license plates and that the ignition had been "punched."

The officer checked with dispatchers and found a 38-year-old man had reported the motorcycle was stolen from him earlier.

The officer then arrested the suspect for suspicion of unauthorized control of a motor vehicle.

Seven arrested in alleged burglary attempt

Police arrested six men and a woman at about 11:20 a.m. yesterday while they were allegedly trying to break into a building at 1939 Young St. which has been the site of illegal gambling operations in the past.

Those arrested for suspicion of attempted second-degree burglary ranged in age from 21 to 41.

Four youths in stolen Honda arrested

Three men and an older boy were arrested in Haleiwa about 10:45 a.m. yesterday after they allegedly used one stolen car while attempting to steal a second.

A 32-year-old woman called police to say the men had gotten into her car near the intersection of Joseph Leong and Kamehameha highways. The woman said the men were able to drive her car only a short distance before they got out and left in a black Honda sedan.

Police said the caller managed to copy down the Honda's license plate number, that responding officers saw the car and ordered the driver to pull over.

A witness identified the man seen behind the wheel of the woman's car and he was arrested for suspicion of unauthorized control of a propelled vehicle.

Police then discovered that the Honda the four youths were riding in had also been stolen. Members of the group were subsequently arrested for suspicion of another count of car theft as well as third-degree promotion of a dangerous drug, possession of drug paraphernalia and two contempt of court warrants.
