Two public school teachers get Milken awards

Advertiser Staff

Two public school science teachers — Farrington High School's Bebi Davis and Waipahu High School's Carl Matsumoto — have been awarded Milken National Educator Awards, which are among the nation's top teaching prizes.

Both teachers received news of the awards — which carry a prize of $25,000 — in surprise school assemblies today.

The Milken awards are given to educators in each state annually by the Milken Family Foundation to honor outstanding and inspiring public school teachers. This year $2.5 million will be awarded to exceptional teachers throughout the country.

The teachers will officially receive their awards next May at the Milken Family Foundation National Education Conference in Washington, D.C.
