ISLAND LIFE SHORTS
Updating the wedding singer

Advertiser Staff

Parties go hand in hand with weddings, but who do you book and what do you get? Five Hawai'i show-biz entities made the cut in Modern Bride magazine's 150 Hot Bands & DJs list in the December-January issue, now on newsstands.

Based on choices by wedding planners, reception managers, event coordinators and designers, the hot list includes DJ Dan (Dan Viola, at left, a two-decade vet) of Maui, Envisions Entertainment of Maui (savvy at matching bands to the couple), Island Disco of O'ahu (DJs offer six sound and lighting options), Kustom Sounds Kaua'i (top service is a priority) and Musical Options Entertainment of Maui (access to authentic local entertainment).

MUNCHIES

TRY YOUR POPCORN WITH CUMIN

During National Popcorn Poppin' Month, the Popcorn Board (www.popcorn.org) offers these mind-poppin' facts:

  • Americans will consume 17 billion quarts of popcorn this year. That's 54 quarts of the low-cal snack (if air-popped, it has only 31 calories per cup, though oil-popped has 55) per person.

  • Most popcorn comes in two basic shapes when popped: snowflake (used in theaters) and mushroom (for candy confections).

  • Popular popcorn toppings include garlic salt, cumin, dry taco seasoning mix, parmesan cheese and cinnamon.
