Lahaina becomes Halloween Town

 •  Sensor can 'sniff' out booze

LAHAINA, Maui — "The Phantom of Front Street" is the theme of this year's Halloween in Lahaina celebration, organized by the LahainaTown Action Committee. Front Street will be closed to traffic from Baker Street to Prison Street, 3 p.m. to midnight Monday.

The keiki costume parade starts at 4:30 p.m. at the Lahaina Center, ending at Kamehameha Iki Park. There will be face painting, food, entertainment and other activities from 5 to 7 p.m. at Banyan Tree Park.

Registration for the Maui Tacos Great Halloween Costume Contest, with a $1,000 grand prize, will run 6:30 to 8 p.m. Winners will be announced at 10 p.m.

A House of Horrors at the Wharf Cinema Center is open 6 to 10 p.m. weekdays and 1 to 10 p.m. weekends and Halloween. Cost: $8 adults and $5 children.

The county's Holo Ka'a bus system will provide extra service between Ka'anapali and Lahaina on Monday until 10:15 p.m., with fares only $1 each way.
