Waiakea freshman Kimberly Kim and Punahou sophomore Stephanie Kono were named honorable mention Rolex Junior All-Americans by the American Junior Golf Association, joining a talented collection of current and former top-level junior golfers from around the world.

Kim, 14, is ranked ninth in the latest Golfweek/Titleist Performance Index. Kono, who turns 16 in a month, is 13th.

It was Kim's second All-America honor in as many years. Last year, she became the youngest player to win an AJGA Open event at the I.R.I. Golf Group Tri-Cities Junior. This year, she finished in the top 10 in three of the five AJGA events she played, and made a run to the third round of the U.S. Girls' Junior.

Her strong play the past year earned her a spot on the U.S. Ping Junior Solheim Cup Team, which defeated the Europeans, 16-8, at The Bridgewater Club in Westfield, Ind., last month.

Kono claimed her first national victory this year at the Westfield PGA Junior Championship. She also tied for third at the Hiwan Junior in early June.

Introduced by the AJGA in 1978, the Rolex Junior All-America Teams annually recognize those players who have established themselves as the world's premier junior golfers. This year's selections distinguished themselves at 70 national events, 54 of which where conducted by the AJGA.

The teams are made up of 135 junior golfers, ages 13 to 19, from 29 states and three foreign countries. There are 72 on the boys team and 63 on the girls — 10 on the first team, 10 on the second and 43 honorable mention. Among those on the first team is Morgan Pressel, Golfweek's top-ranked girl.

Former Rolex Junior All-Americans include Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson, David Toms, Jim Furyk, Sergio Garcia, Paula Creamer, Cristie Kerr, Hee-Won Han and Candie Kung.
