Let the Mayhem begin.

Jason "Mayhem" Miller defeated Hawai'i's Falaniko Vitale by choke submission in the main event of the Icon Sport: Opposites Attract mixed martial arts card last night.

A crowd of around 7,000 at the Blaisdell Center Arena watched Miller improve to 14-4 and earn a championship fight against Iowa's Robbie Lawler.

Vitale dropped to 20-5 with his second consecutive loss.

Miller jumped on Vitale's back early in the second round and eventually worked his way into a choke position.

The referee stopped the bout 2 minutes, 41 seconds into the second round. It was scheduled for three five-minute rounds.

Vitale controlled most of the first round, landing several punches to Miller's face.

Vitale also got Miller in a choke hold late in the first round, but Miller escaped it just before the horn sounded to end the round.

In the co-main event, K.J. Noons defeated Harris Sarmiento in an action-packed bout between 160-pound fighters.

Noons dropped Sarmiento several times throughout the fight with powerful kicks.

The referee stopped the bout 4:37 into the third round when Noons pounced on a fallen Sarmiento and landed a series of punches.

Noons, who is originally from the Big Island but now trains in San Diego, improved to 4-1. Sarmiento, who trains out of the 808 Fight Factory in Waipahu, dropped to 26-11.

In another preliminary bout, Canada's Nick Ring remained undefeated with an impressive first-round TKO of Waimanalo's Mike Malone. Ring (5-0) unleashed a flurry of unanswered punches on Malone, prompting the referee to stop the fight 3:04 into the first round.
