Police Beat: Random stranger victim in punching incident

An 18-year-old Moili'ili man was arrested following what what police believe was a completely unprovoked and random attack last night on a 58-year-old man.Police said the older man was walking in Makiki about 9:05 p.m. when the suspect approached and punched him once in the eye.
Police said the two men did not know each other and they could find no explanation for the incident. The victim was treated for a fractured eye socket.
The suspect, who was arrested on Ke'eaumoku Street, had been drinking and initially refused to provide any personal information, police said.
They later determined his age and that he lives at a Metcalf Street address. The incident was classified as a second-degree assault.
Girl's injuries investigated
Police have opened an investigation into what a doctor described as suspicious injuries to a 3-year-old 'Ewa Beach girl.
The girl was taken to the Saint Francis West Medical Center yesterday for treatment of stomach pains.
An emergency room doctor diagnosed the pains as stemming from a serious internal injury that appears to have occurred prior to 4 p.m. on Tuesday, and police were called.
No arrests had been made as of this morning.
Two police officers assaulted
A 28-year-old man was arrested early yesterday morning in the Mayor Wright public housing complex after he allegedly assaulted two police officers.
Police said the officers were sent to investigate a noise complaint at about 12:55 a.m. when they confronted a group of men who were drinking.
One of the men became belligerent and disorderly and the two officers were arresting him when another man approached from behind and punched one of the officers in the head, police said.
A second officer stepped in to try to protect the first officer and was punched in the chest.
The suspect ran away but was caught a short time later and arrested on suspicion of two counts of first-degree assault upon a police officer.
Multiple felonies alleged following traffic stop
A 22-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of multiple felony offenses yesterday after her car was pulled over about 9:50 p.m. Wednesday in 'Ewa Beach on suspicion of a traffic offense.
Police said the driver initially refused to pull over but stopped a short time later. The officer was preparing to write out a traffic ticket but the driver was having a hard time explaining who owned the car.
The officer grew increasingly suspicious of the driver and a bag that was in the car and eventually obtained a search warrant to open the bag, which contained a handgun and narcotics, police said.
The driver was then arrested on suspicion of carrying a firearm in public, being a felon in possession of a firearm, detaining stolen property, third-degree promotion of dangerous drugs, possession of drug paraphernalia, disregarding a red light, driving without a license and failing to have no fault insurance.
July ramming incident leads to arrest
An 18-year-old man was arrested yesterday in connection with a July incident in which he is alleged to have rammed a stolen car repeatedly into the Jeep his girlfriend was driving.
Police said the man had been in an argument with his girlfriend who arrived at Ala Moana Park with a pair of her friends in a Jeep. They said the boyfriend became irate, and reversed the car he was driving into the Jeep several times, causing extreme damage to each of the cars.
Glass from the rear window of the car the suspect was driving shattered and flew onto the hood of the Jeep and into an area of the Jeep where two girls were sitting, police said.
The suspect ran away before police arrived. They determined the car he was driving had been stolen earlier.
Based on witness statements and a photographic lineup, the suspect was identified. He surrendered at 9 a.m. yesterday and was arrested on suspicion of unauthorized control of a propelled vehicle and first-degree criminal property damage.
Hau'ula woman reports sexual assault
A 35-year-old man was arrested yesterday in connection with a sexual assault reported by a Hau'ula woman.
The woman, also 35, told police that the man, whom she had just met, entered her home without permission about 3 a.m. Saturday and assaulted her.
She told police she did not know where the man lived but saw the same person again last night and called police, who located the suspect and arrested him on suspicion of fourth-degree sexual assault and first-degree burglary.
