St. Patrick's turning 75

St. Patrick's School in Kaimuki is celebrating its 75th anniversary this weekend with events including a rummage sale and lu'au.

Tomorrow, the actual anniversary, Lt. Gov. James "Duke" Aiona and Mayor Mufi Hannemann will present pro-clamations and the students will celebrate with song, cake and ice cream.

On Saturday, a rummage sale will be held at the campus, 1124 Seventh Ave.

On Sunday, an 11 a.m. celebration Mass will be followed by the ninth annual Alumni and PTA Lu'au with entertainment by H'eia and Frank Delima. Tickets are $20 and can be reserved by calling 734-8979.

BLANCHE POPE GOING WIRELESS

Blanche Pope Elementary School in Waimanalo has received $65,000 in technology grants from the Beaumont Foundation of America.

The school will be awarded wireless technology equipment, including Internet-enabled laptop computers.

Beaumont Foundation awarded 170 education grants this year to help the disenfranchised achieve digital equity.

ARTS CURRICULUM WORKSHOPS SET

Elementary school teachers can participate in professional development workshops on enhancing curriculum through the arts.

Sponsored by the Hawai'i Alliance for Arts Education and the State Foundation on Culture and the Arts, the workshops with Louise Adams and Vivien Lee will be offered Oct. 1 and 8, and Jan. 7 at Konawaena Elementary School on the Big Island.

WCC OFFERING 13-WEEK SCHEDULE

Windward Community College is offering an accelerated 13-week course schedule for those starting the semester late.

The courses, which include many in popular subject areas, are mostly scheduled for the evening and start the week of Sept. 6.
