Other past champions include Steve Veriato, Dennis Rose and Alan Texeira, all of whom moved on to successful careers as pros. The tournament's defending champion is Skip Murphy, who is entering his sophomore year at Duke.

The Francis H. I'i Brown, Island of Hawai'i, Men's and Women's Amateur Match Play Championships will be Oct. 22, 23 and 29. The tournament began in 1951, but is being revived after a 42-year absence.

Entrants must have verifiable evidence of current, full-time Big Island residency for at least the past three years.
