Police investigators said the man was crossing from the makai to the mauka side of the busy thoroughfare and was struck by the westbound van near Mahiai Street.
The pedestrian was taken to The Queen's Medical Center and was reported to be in critical condition upon arrival.
The 55-year-old woman who was driving the Dodge Caravan was not injured, police said. Speed and alcohol do not appear to be factors in the case, investigators said.
Knife threat investigated
A 52-year-old Punchbowl-area man was arrested early this morning after he allegedly threatened his girlfriend with a knife.
The girlfriend, 54, told police she got into an argument with her boyfriend about 1:20 a.m. at his Kinau Street apartment and that he was pushing her toward the front door and demanding that she leave when she fell to the floor.
She said her boyfriend then pulled a knife and threatened to kill her.
Police said the woman eventually got possession of the knife, left the apartment and drove around for a while before calling police. Officers went to the apartment and arrested the boyfriend on suspicion of first-degree terroristic threatening.
Wrecked car found to be stolen
A 32-year-old man was arrested Wednesday morning at Pa'akea and Ma'ili'ili roads in Ma'ili after a police officer noticed the man was trying to restart a car that had been involved in a single-car collision.
The officer checked the license plates and learned that a 42-year-old woman had reported the car stolen earlier.
Two passengers in the car and a witness told police the man who was arrested had been driving the car and the suspect also admitted having driven the car, police said.
He was arrested about 8:25 a.m. on suspicion of unauthorized control of a propelled vehicle.
