Six O'ahu teams — believed to be an unprecedented number — advanced to youth baseball World Series in July and August.

All had to win state tournaments, then a regional tournament to gain a World Series. At one point, five played on the same week.

Two — Cal Ripken's 12-under and West O'ahu's Little League 11-12 — won World Series titles. Three others — Mililani PONY 13, Babe Ruth 13-15 and Little League 15-16 — lost in the final. Another — Little League 13-14 — lost in the semifinals.

The O'ahu team celebrates after defeating two-time defending champion Mexico, 1-0, on Aug. 21 to win the Cal Ripken (12-under) World Series. Kalani Lagoc-Crawford, who drove in the game's only run in the second inning, recorded 11 of 12 outs on strikeouts to earn the victory. He got one inning each of relief from Jordan DePonte and Kewby Meyer, who struck out all three in earning the save and getting the Most Outstanding Player Award.
