Alaka'i Aglipay

Advertiser Staff

Alaka'i Aglipay, who played third base and pitched, has a quiet side, his father Jesse Aglipay said.

"He doesn't like to always go outside," the elder Aglipay said. "He is a good kid. He doesn't get into trouble."

Alaka'i's balance to sports is found in solitary pursuits: video games, listening to music and playing on the family computer.

When the 13-year-old boy does go out — to the beach, bowling or ice skating — it's often with players from the championship team, his father said.

"And that's good because we know who he is with," Jesse Aglipay said.

Alaka'i used to attend the Word of Life Academy in Honolulu, but now he is home-schooled, entering the eighth grade this year. His two brothers — 5-year-old twins — attend public school near their 'Ewa home.

"He's very diligent," said his father, a truck driver on medical leave. "Like every kid, you have to double-check and make sure he does his work. His mom is always on his case."

His mother, Dawn, is a hairstylist in 'Aiea. It was she who gave some of the boys blond hairdos during the tournament, Jesse Aglipay said.
