HILO, Hawai'i — A 52-year-old motorcyclist died Sunday after crashing his 1991 Harley-Davidson on Route 190 in the Pu'uanahulu area of North Kona.

Police said the man was a resident of Kailua, Kona, but his name has not been released. He was heading north at about 1:20 p.m. when he ran off the right side of the road near the 21-mile marker, police said, and struck a wall. He was pronounced dead about three hours later at Kona Community Hospital.

There have been 24 traffic fatalities on the Big Island this year, compared with 28 a year ago.
