Kool Herc, born Clive Campbell in Kingston, Jamaica, in 1955, has been called The Father of Hip Hop. As a teenager in the Bronx, he had a loud sound system, two turntables and an obsession with breaks and beats. With his crew, the Herculoids, he helped coin the phrase b-boy (break boy) in the 1970s. He played himself in the film "Beat Street," and more recently, is on the Chemical Brothers album "Dig Your Own Hole." See him at 9 tonight at Next Door, 43 N. Hotel St.; $15 at the door. 'TRANSPORTER 2' RUMBLES ACROSS MOVIE LANDSCAPE

"Transporter 2," the sequel to the 2002's high-powered offering, ruined a two-week lucky streak for "The 40 Year-Old Virgin." It scored the boxoffice title for the weekend, earning about $20.3 million and beating out 2003's "Jeepers Creepers 2" for the best Labor Day weekend opening ever. "Virgin" held its own in the third week with $16.6 million. "The Constant Gardener" drew the highest per-screen average, bringing it to third place at $10.8 million.

FINAL WORD

"Being young and green, I didn't know any other way to approach it and have it feel real, so I didn't shave and I didn't bathe for about a month. I did that until people on the set couldn't take it any more. Sam (Samuel L. Jackson) doesn't let me forget it. To this day, he still calls me Stink Butt."
