Chefs pitch in for hurricane relief

Many of Hawai'i's top chefs will pitch in to aid Hurricane Katrina victims with a benefit, 6 to 9 p.m. Sept. 19 at Aloha Tower Marketplace.

Alan Wong, Roy Yamaguchi, D.K. Kodama, Chai Chaowasaree, Russell Siu, Hiroshi Fukui, George Mavrothalassitis, Guillaume Burlion, Doug Lum, Colin Nishida and hotels and restaurants have signed on.

Tickets are $150 for food and wine samplings, and entertainment by musicians including Na Leo Pilimehana and C&K. Some catered corporate tables are also available. Tickets can be purchased at Chai's Island Bistro at Aloha Tower Marketplace, beginning today. Checks may be made out to "The Salvation Army Katrina Relief."

SAKE-TASTING EVENT IS BACK AGAIN

The Joy of Sake is celebrating its fifth anniversary 6 to 8:30 p.m. Friday at the Hawai'i Convention Center. The tasting will feature more than 200 sakes, including gold and silver winners from the 2005 U.S. National Sake Appraisal and junmai, ginjo and daiginjo tasting sections. Thirteen local restaurants will prepare appetizers to match. Reserve tickets, $65, by calling the Sake Hotline at 739-1000 or online at joyof sake.com; also available at Fujioka's, 739-9463.

SAKE, SEAFOOD, WINE HELP LUPUS GROUP

There's more sake, as well as seafood and wine, at From the Vineyard to the Sea, 5:30 p.m. Saturday at the Dole Cannery Ballroom, featuring local seafood selected by United Fishing Agency's Brooks Takenaka (and rib roast prepared by D.K. Kodama). Tickets cost $75, benefiting the Lupus Foundation of America, Hawaii chapter and are on sale through Friday; call the foundation, 538-1522, or get them at Fujioka's.
