Earth community talks Sept. 26, 27

The Church of the Crossroads will present its free, two-part Umematsu and Yasu Watada Lectures, "The Great Turning: From Empire to Earth Community," at 7 p.m. Sept. 26 and 27 at the church, 1212 University Ave.

David Korten, a 30-year development worker in Asia, Africa and Latin America and Harvard Business School professor, will give the lectures. Call 949-2220.

MISSION PLANS FESTIVAL FOR OCT.9

The Izumo Taishi Mission will hold its annual Thanksgiving Festival at 2 p.m. Oct. 9 at the Shinto shrine, 215 N. Kukui St., across from the Chinese Cultural Plaza.

This is the 99th annual omatsuri, in which participants express gratitude for blessings bestowed on families, businesses and nation. After the 2 p.m. prayer service will be taiko and musical entertainment, followed by a free dinner at 4 p.m. Call 538-7778.
