UH soccer plays to 0-0 draw

The University of Hawai'i women's soccer team and Weber State played to a scoreless draw after two overtimes yesterday at the 49er Classic at Long Beach, Calif.

The Rainbow Wahine are 2-2-1. Weber State is 0-3-1.

The teams combined for 32 shots, with the Rainbow Wahine getting 14. UH's best chance to score in the first half came in the 41st minute when Adria Campbell sent a through ball to Aimee Cohen, but her shot from 12 yards out was blocked by goalie Kandice Golar.

Hawai'i will face host Long Beach State tomorrow at 2 p.m., Hawai'i time.

HPU SWEEPS TO WINS

Hawai'i Pacific University swept the individual and team titles at the Chaminade Invitational yesterday at La'ie.

In the women's 5K race, Anne Olesen of HPU won in 18 minutes, 33 seconds. In the men's 8K race, Jacob Klausen of HPU won in 26:53.

In the women's team race, HPU edged Brigham Young University-Hawai'i, 31-35. HPU also beat the BYUH men for the team title, 30-35.

The University of Hawai'i-Manoa finished third in the women's team race with 69 points, while Chaminade was fourth with 92.

HPU and BYUH were the only two complete teams in the men's competition.

MAUI PLAYER FALLS IN FINAL

Kori Homan and Esther Vergeer of the Netherlands captured the women's doubles in the first wheelchair competition played at the U.S. Open yesterday at New York.

Homan and Vergeer defeated Beth Arnoult-Rithaler of Kula, Maui, and Jan Proctor of Delray Beach, Fla., 6-3, 6-1.
