Hawai'i gas price top in nation

Hawai'i today once again reported the highest gas prices in the nation, according to AAA.

The reported average was $3.58 a gallon, up from the previous day's average of $3.46 and 29 cents higher than the nation's runner up, Washington D.C.

The average price for a gallon of regular unleaded gasoline reached $3.60 at Hilo, $3.50 in Honolulu and $3.78 in Wailuku, according to AAA.



State cracks down on tax evaders

The state is cracking down on real estate agents who don't pay general excise tax on their commissions.

The state Attorney General filed criminal complaints against about a dozen brokers who are accused of not paying $390,000 in GET on $9 million of sales commissions.

The state Tax Department also has sent civil complaint letters to several hundred other brokers for smaller suspected non-payments of GET.



Windward Mall sets job fair for Oct. 1

Windward Mall merchants will be looking for applicants to fill holiday and permanent jobs at the Windward Mall Job Fair from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. October 1.
